On Oct. 15, Zhang Zhigang, Vice Minister of Commerce, met with Sebastian Kopuland, Special Assistant to Zambia President and his party, who came to participate the 98th CECF in Guangzhou.
Mr. Zhang Zhigang extended warm welcome to the visit of his Party. He said that China and Zambia cherished a traditional friendship and the government attached much importance to the development of China-Zambia trade and economic cooperation. With the mutual efforts of both governments, bilateral trade development in recent years was fast. In 2004, China-Zambia bilateral trade amounted to US$220 million, up by about 1.7 times compared with that in the previous year. In Jan. through August in 2005, the bilateral trade reached US$170 million, up by 43%.
Mr. Kopulande expressed his thanks to Vice Minister Zhang Zhigang for his meeting during the Fair. He said that the government of Zambia highly stressed the bilateral trade and economic relations and organized a delegation to take part in the Fair. The two countries had broader cooperation prospect in mining, agriculture, tourism and textile industries, welcomed more Chinese enterprises to invest in Zambia. Meanwhile, he hoped to enhance exchange and cooperation between the two countries step by step to promote deeper development of bilateral trade and economic relations.
